Style – La Carte

BYO – Corkage $5 per person

Location – Ewingsdale (Byron Bay, New South Wales)

Ok wow.

Have you ever had that kind of incredible dining experience when every single mouthful of carefully articulated food is like an orgasm in your mouth, the staff go above and beyond for your every need and the view is to die for?!

That happened to me today.

The Fig Tree is a unique property set on 5 lush acres, offering picturesque views of Byron Bay, the Light House and Julian Rocks.

Conveniently located in tranquil Ewingsdale, just 5 minutes drive from Byron Bay’s main shopping district, the restaurant itself is located in the original family farmhouse, perched on top of a hill. How cool!

The stunning view overlooking Byron Bay is framed by a beautiful old fig tree, hence the name.

The Fig Tree Restaurant isn’t an unfamiliar place to me. The owner went to school with my cousin, there’s been multiple family members get married at the venue and in 2009 I worked at weddings functions there for a few months. But honestly, time and time again this local Byron Bay family built business delivers nothing but the BEST.

Heather and Charly Devlin first opened Fig Tree Restaurant in 1981, their dream was simple. “To convert an original farmhouse into a restaurant and serve food grown and prepared by themselves”  In the beginning the restaurant was the Devlin family home and diners were welcomed to share a table.  Over the years the restaurant has stayed true to this theme, since 2005 son Che took over his parent’s legacy and has grown it to be what it is today.

Still we remain true to our beginnings; food is grown in our own fig tree garden and lovingly prepared in our family kitchen. ~ Fig Tree Restaurant

From the moment you enter the driveway of the Fig Tree you are treated like royalty with a genuinely friendly smile and a professional yet humble attitude by each and every staff member.

If you’re lucky, you’ll score a degustation Sunday lunch reservation weeks before the date by calling or booking online (details below). They’re usually booked out with locals, eager tourists or weddings so I highly recommend booking in advanced.

The Sunday lunch menu differs depending on what’s readily available from the garden / local suppliers each day, but the highly qualified chefs will try their best to accompany any dietary requirements you have.

My Sunday menu looked a little something like this:

All their produce is sourced locally under and/or from their own fig tree garden. For an 8 course meal plus corkage prices start at around $70-80 per person. It’s BYO so you’re welcome to bring plenty of vino!
